MBZ Diesel We are your premier source for all things Diesel Mercedes. We specialize in the renowned OM617 Turbo-Diesel motor, including installations, rebuilds, conversions and performance upgrades. We are also a full service repair and restoration shop. We are based in SW Oregon and service customers from all over the Western US. In addition to the benefit of our expertise in diesel Mercedes-Benz engines, we are also a licensed auto dismantler specializing in classic Mercedes parts. That means we have a large inventory of used diesel Mercedes parts, and we have special pricing on new parts for our customers. Why take your classic Mercedes to a repair shop with less experience? Why trust your conversion to a mechanic that's never completed one before? Bring your car to a shop you can trust.
Diesel Engine Installations & Conversions We have experience with a variety of diesel swaps into both Mercedes
and non-Mercedes vehicles, in particular using the OM617 turbo-diesel engine. Below is some basic information about the three types of motor swaps that we do, along with a rough estimate of hours. Since these estimates are for vehicles that are more than 30 years old, they each present with unique challenges based on their history of wear and tear. As such, we usually cannot provide a more exact estimate until the car is in our shop and the engine is removed. OEM Mercedes Engine Installations, in which the original engine is removed and replaced with the OEM engine, are fairly straightforward and are usually 20-35 hours of labor and
about $300-$500 in additional parts. Mercedes G-Wagen Conversions for 240GD, 300GD, 280GE, etc. in which the original engine is replaced with a different
Mercedes engine, are slightly more complicated and are usually 30-50 hours of
labor and about $1500-$3000 in additional parts. We can also convert other classic Mercedes cars into diesels at a similar rate, such as a W114, W111, R107, etc. Non-Mercedes Conversions, in which the engine in a non-Mercedes (such as a Jeep, Land Rover, or Toyota) is replaced with
a Mercedes engine, are the most complex. They can be 60-80 hours of
labor and about $2000-$3000 in additional parts.
Repairs and Maintenance In addition to engine swaps and conversions, we also offer repair services for your classic Mercedes-Benz. Whether you need work to your engine, transmission, rear-end, brakes, suspension, steering, or to an accessory system like A/C, electrical, or vacuum, we can help. Bring your car in for an engine swap and take it home with a new suspension!
Pricing Our current shop rate is only $105/hour, less than most shops in urban areas. We require a 50% deposit of the labor estimate before beginning the job, and the remaining 50% upon completion. Since we are a parts reseller, we require all parts to be paid upfront.
