Parts for the W116 Chassis Mercedes-Benz, Manufactured from 1973-1980. These vehicles were released in 1972 after six years of development as the new flagship S-Class series luxury sedans. The W116 Mercedes was a much heavier, larger and particularly longer than it's W108/W109 predecessor, and thus was truly a car of the 70s. Long-wheelbase models were part of the production series as well as standard-wheelbase sedans. With initial M110 Straight-Six 2.8L engines were popular, 3.5L and 4.5L V8 models with M116 and M117 engines (respectively) soon followed. In addition, the W116 450SEL 6.9 was released with limited production. At the time, this 6.9L V8 M100 engine was the largest to be found in a production car made outside of the US, and these models are still popular today. The W116 was also the first Mercedes chassis to feature self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension, and also anti-lock brakes. By 1977 the 450SEL 6.9 model carried a heavy list price at $53,000--a whopping $225,000 in 2019 dollars. The W116 was alsot the first chassis to featured the world reknowned OM617 turbo-diesel engine, released in the 1978 300SD. This 5-cylinder 3.0L motor is known for its longetivy and efficiency, and has brought much additional attention from collectors to the W116 chassis.
