Parts for the W124 Chassis Mercedes-Benz, Manufactured from 1985-1995. These vehicles were the first Mercedes chassis to be officially designated as E-Class with their release in 1986. They were in development for a decade prior to their release, with many of the design and engineering aspects based on the W201 chassis. The W124 featured a variety of advanced engineering feautres. Both the W124 and W201 featured the multi-link rear axle, which is still common on many vehicles 30 years later. At the time of its production, the W124 had one of the lowest drag coefficients of any production vehicle of the time. The R129 roadster chassis was actually based on the W124 platform. The W124 also saw the release of 5-speed automatic transmissions, and of 4Matic four-wheel drive models. Like its predecessor the W124, the W124 chassis was released in sedan/saloon, wagon/estate, and coupe models. In 1993 the W123 received a face lift, helping to extend its production all the way to 1997, thus giving it more than a full decade of sales.
